February 1, 2011 December came and went, but before it went it sent a tornado through my kitchen! It must have been by far the busiest month of the year, aside from the month of May which is always insanity. In addition to the numerous holiday orders that poured in, I attended my very first vendor event where I featured the holiday mini cakes decorated as snowmen, upside down Santas going down the chimney and present boxes. The week leading up to the event was brutal. With my mother, grandmother, dear friend and boyfriend at my side, we baked, frosted and decorated over 100 mini cakes for the occasion. The event itself was not well advertised and left a bit to be desired, however it was a great way to get the experience of the sale without becoming overwhelmed. I'm very proud to say that we were definitely the hit of the event and sold 75% of our inventory. The people we met and the pure experience of it made all the hard work and crazy hours well worth it. Here's a pic of me and my mom behind the counter enjoy my very first sale of the day! The month ended with an amazing number of Christmas orders consisting mainly of mini cakes and the new Christmas cake pops. For those of you who have never experienced a cake pop, it's a ball of cake, about the size of a munchkin, on a stick, dipped in candy coatings and decorated. I have to say that they just melt in your mouth! :-) The new year has brought with it a much needed balance! ha ha ha.. I love being busy with the cakes, however with a full time job plus a successful side job, it sometimes gets the best of me and leaves me wishing for extra time to do the millions of other things I enjoy. Those who know me are fully aware that I love everything from working out to knitting which the month of January as allowed me to indulge in. I finished my good friends baby blanket for the coming of her first son Hudson. I've also gone back to the gym!! I'm working on taking off the few pounds added on from the "tastings" that are simply a necessity in my field... hee heee hee... Seriously though, this 5k enthusiast is training for her first half marathon in April. In the horizon.... more cake pops! I see Valentine's Day cake pops, St. Patty's Day cake pops, Spring cake pops in pots decorated as flowers, Easter bunny cake pops! I'm also extremely excited to be visiting my home country, Uruguay! I've been away for 10 years and have cousins to meet for the first time! After the vacation..drum roll please...a move to Brooklyn! Yikes, Brooklyn? Yes, this full out Jersey girl is moving to Brooklyn. Why do you ask.... ah, why do we do anything that matters... for LOVE! Upon my return....pix of my vacation and the newly renovated kitchen my wonderful boyfriend has put in for me to accommodate my baking passion! Till then - xoxo - K

Hi Fans! We've heard that many of our customers have sacrificed flavor for the satiny finished look of fondant. Well, you've commented and we've heard you. Satin Ice has found a delicious solution. Butter cream flavored fondant and Karen's Kakery has it in stock! You'll never want to peel the fondant off your cake again! Karen's Kakery tested and approved! Two thumbs up!!
